The perfect sofa fabric.

Synopsis: Ask a woman shopping for a new sofa, “What’s most important?” Answer? Fabrics!

Fabrics are the thing. Just ask a woman shopping for a sofa. Color, texture and pattern are what are exciting…forget all that stuff about construction detail. Ask Lynn Anspach, a teacher and mother from Fort Wayne, Indiana, who recently picked out a new sofa and loveseat for her living room. She says, “If the fabric doesn’t make me feel good, it’s not coming in my house. It’s like buying a dress; I have a long list of requirements for the pattern and color.”

Anspach explains, “It was frustrating to visit furniture stores. I was spending so much time and everything kept getting complicated. So I thought I’d check to see what I could find online.” She googled sofas and fortuitously found a link to an internet furniture company that allows a shopper on their site to pick a fabric from more than 100 patterns and watch as the fabric choice appears on a pre-selected sofa or sectional style.

“I was able to find just what I wanted by picking my own furniture style and fabric. But the fun with fabrics didn’t end there,” Anspach says. “After I decided on a pattern for my sofa, I could accessorize the selection by clicking on fabric choices for throw pillows. The fabric on the sofa stays the same and the throw pillow fabric changes. It is easy to get carried away with all the possibilities, and fascinating to try all kinds of crazy combinations.”

The company, Home Reserve, LLC, has recently expanded this user-driven experimentation with fabrics to include a unique line of end tables and coffee tables.  They don’t call them tables, however. Instead, they’re “designer cubes” because they are covered with fabric and can be coordinated with the patterns shoppers have chosen for their sofas, couches, sectionals and loveseats.

Anspach adds, “I love being able to coordinate all the colors in my room, and to be able to add the finishing touches with throw pillows and designer cubes. They are focused on inexpensive, sophisticated style, so I was not freaked out by price worries and could match the image I had in my head of the way I wanted things to look.”

Marketing exclusively online, this five-year-old company makes all its own products in a factory in the United States. Delivery, surprisingly enough–for their large items like sofas and couches–is by UPS. Everything ships ready to assemble in packages small enough to fit through tight spots.
