A New Coffee Shop

October 10th, 2008

Joyce, from her Coffee Shop

Q, Casey and Jenny,

My name is Joyce. I am opening a new coffee shop with live entertainment. I want to get a sofa that will meet the feel but be durable in a coffee shop. I want a fabric that can be wiped off. I love the fact the structure supports 2,000 pounds. Can you recommend a sofa pattern?

Visit my website that I’m linking to in this email to see what I’m going for. I would love your recommendations?

A. Congratulation on opening your new shop! You website looks great. I would suggest the Laney sofa and chairs. Laney offers a contemporary look but has the comfort that would work great in a coffe shop setting. Here are some washable fabric suggestions that would be consistent with your design theme.

Options for furniture:

(1)Matador faux leather (2) Altima latte (3) Hondo camel (4) Fairview Cocoa (5) Cricket Berry

(1) (2) (3) (4) (5)

Fabric options for throw pillows, designer cubes and wall art: (5) Cricket Berry (6) Sacamo Amber (7) Posey Melody (8) Tremont Russet (9) Panache Melody (10) Hansen Vintage

(5) (6) (7) (8) (9) (10)

You can see larger swatches of all these fabrics, and order samples in our fabric gallery. Best Wishes on your new business. Let us know how it turns out!

Making a room look bigger

October 9th, 2008

from Peggy In Netherlands Antilles

Q. I’m adding on a bedroom to my house and the living room is getting smaller.  I’d like to get a sectional but  I do not know what would be a good color to make the area look a little bit bigger.  Current colors in there are light yellow, and the wood units are natural with a golden tan hue. I don’t want to repaint…I was thinking liberty sand dune…any suggestions?

A. Hi Peggy,

I think your choice of a sectional would be great. It will give you more seating and won’t make your space feel cluttered. Here are some tips to make a room feel larger with fabrics:

Use a monochromatic (tone on tone) decor scheme with neutrals. The Liberty sand dune fabric would work great. Here is an example:

(1) liberty sand dune (2) Fairview Sand (3) Ella Cafe.

(1) (2) (3)
.
.

Use light airy tones like blues and greens. Try using (4 )Mission Sky with (5) Chandon Truffle accents or (6) Ranger Twill Pesto with (7) Conway Parchment accents.

(4) (5) (6) (7)
.
.
Another trick would be to keep your furniture fabric the same color as your wall color. So, in your case that would be something like (8) Ranger twill maize.

Enjoy your decorating and let us know how it turn out!

Can I use 2 fabrics on the same sofa?

October 8th, 2008

from Corren

Q. I’m glad I found your site. My apartments have always been filled with hand me downs because I can never find exactly what I want. I just wanted to know if I could choose 2 base colors, if I could have one color for the back and the base while the cushions could be another color.

A. Hi Corren,

It’s great that you are finding your own unique style! Yes, you can Combine fabrics. Just order two fabric sets, or order one fabric set and call Sandy at customer service (260- 969-6939) to order the additional cushion fabrics that you would like. Check out our design video, Paige, where we demonstrate how this works.

We hope that you enjoy customizing your apartment in your style!

Do the sectional units attach?

October 3rd, 2008

from Robin in Indiana

Q. I plan on purchasing a Monroe style sectional and I love the cricket nutmeg fabric. I just have one question: Do the individual units attach to one another, or are they free floating, and, do they push around when you sit on them?

A. Good question, Robin. All of the sectional units securely attach to one another by two connecting bolts. All you need is a screwdriver to put them together, and the units stay in place. There is no shifting when you sit on them. Here’s a photo of a gentlemen attaching two units. The bolts go through the sides of the frame. Good choice on that cricket nutmeg fabric, that’s a classic.

Chair & Half

September 30th, 2008

Parker in Pennsylvania

Q. Hi, I was about to order a chair and ottoman when I noticed the chair and a half. I really like the look of the chair and a half. Would the ottoman be able to go with this, or is the chair and a half to big for the ottoman?

A. Thanks for your question Parker. We’re glad you like the chair and a half; it’s very comfortable and inviting. Although, size-wise, the ottoman is not an exact match, it looks very nice when placed in front of this item, especially with the wide side parallel to the chair, or at a slight angle.

If you prefer a more exact match in terms of size, try two ottomans turned perpendicular to the chair. Two ottomans, pushed together like this, are about 44′ wide and work nicely with the chair and a half for a comfortable, spacious seating arrangement.

Sundrops and Tangerine

September 25th, 2008

From Arthur in Georgia

Q. Hi Casey and Jenny,

I want to get a loveseat for my teenage daughter and would like your advice. The walls in her room are painted a sea blue color with white trim and white built-in cupboards with a cubby area that will fit a loveseat. The carpet is called “sundrop”. It has hints of gold, beige, red, and orange. She would like an orange loveseat, and we like the Mission tangerine fabric. But, we also see that there is another tone called Cricket orange which appears to be a more rusty color. We may create a small sitting area by the loveseat including an armless chair and a large designer cube. I didn’t know if all these colors would work together. Do you have any suggestions on how to blend these colors together? Would throw pillows tie them together? I appreciate your suggestions.

A. Hi Arthur,

This sounds like a fun room! I imagine the colors of a sunny day at the beach. Your choice of orange for the loveseat is fabulous. Here’s the difference between the two oranges you’re considering. 1) Mission Tangerine is a faux suede fabric with a soft brushed finish that will make your daughter’s room brighter and give it a younger, more modern look. 2) Cricket orange is a %100 nylon fabric that is machine washable and has the look of cotton. The color is rustier and will bring a warm calm mood to the room.

Bringing in throw pillows in shades of blue, neutrals, yellows and/or greens will help tie the room together and synthesize all these colors. Here are some fabric options for throw pillows, designer cubes, and wall art that will look great within your color scheme:

3) Baja seaside 4) Moonstone navy 5) Ella citrus

6) Paradise palm 7) Atrium sage 8) Ranger twill maize

I hope you and your daughter enjoy decorating with Home Reserve!

Levi and Laney

September 5th, 2008

Some new designs!

Hi folks, this week Jen and I have been working on some photography and video of two new furniture styles. These styles have just been released and are available for purchase. Here’s a sneak peak at what will be coming to the photo gallery soon!

This is Levi (in Hondo spa), it has a rectangular arm with foam padding on top, and fiber filled back cushions that compliment the design. Levi has clean lines and an urban flavor. It will provide a good anchor for the other design elements in a room, as It projects a confident style.

This is Laney (in Mission tangerine), a style with a smooth radius on the top of the arm, and fiber filled back cushions that flow over the arm. This style has a simple elegance. It’s classical, yet, up-to-date. Use this style in any design setting and you express good taste. Enjoy shopping!P.S. That’s Connie, she’s our favorite model… she makes great expressions.

Color Combos

September 3rd, 2008

From Sydney in North Carolina

Q. Hi Casey and Jenny,

I was so excited to have found Home Reserve when I was looking online for quality, decent-priced furniture! I just moved into my first apartment and really want to make it comfortable and cute. I just can’t decide which fabrics to use! I was hoping you two could help. I love color and have khaki walls and carpet. Can you send me a couple of color combos to help get me started?

A. Thanks for writing Sydney…we’re glad that you found us too! It’s going to work out well that you like color, because you have a great neutral base to build upon.

For a warm color scheme, try this grouping: 1) Fairview seagrass, as your furniture fabric, 2) Posey Melody. 3) Colony russet, and 4) Baja Sunset as your accent colors on throw pillows and wall art. Keep in mind, Posey Melody can also be used as your furniture fabric.

1 2 3 4
For a cool color combination and a more serene mood, you can still use 1) Fairview seagrass on the furniture, but with these fabrics for accenting items: 2) Chandon Truffle, 3) Twinkle Blue Green, and 4) Ranger Twill Pear.

Have fun decorating. Let us know how it all worked out. You can post comments in the guest book or even put up photos on the “Fans of Home Reserve” web site. Planning it out like you are doing is a great start!

I want brighter!

August 27th, 2008

from Daniel in Denver, CO

Q: I’m stuck. My whole house is like all blue and brown. I wish it was more bright or something. How can I make it brighter without not matching stuff?

A: Good question Daniel. You’re in luck. Brown is a neutral tone so that won’t get in the way of introducing other colors. And blue happens to look great with lots of other colors too.

Orange and yellow are great compliments of blue, which means shades of those three colors really look good together. You could start by adding subtle touches of orange and yellow to your house. Try a couple throw pillows in the living room.

When you introduce a new color you should usually add it in at least two places, so maybe something like a vase of orange flowers on a shelf would also be nice. Continue adding these accent and brightening throughout the house!

As designers we always take a lot of clues from nature.  Look at the blue, yellow and orange in this parrots wing.

Ivory and Teenagers

August 18th, 2008

From Kim in Idaho

Q. Hi! I am having some problems with re decorating my living area, it is a small narrow room. The walls are painted a burgundy (which is my fav color) I have dark brown laminate flooring and a custom built entertainment center which is a walnut color and takes up one whole side of the wall. I would really like it to look as sophisticated as possible but at the same time I have two teenagers and am afraid to go with a light colored material for the furniture. Any advice would be greatly appreciated!!

A. Thanks for your question Kim, it sounds like you’ve got a really nice room to work with. I think you’re right, a light fabric would look good in the darker room that you’ve described. We have some great light-colored, washable, and durable options that should be no trouble with teenagers in the house.

1  Altima sand is a “pet safe” fabric with stain protection built into the fiber, so spills and stains wipe away.

2  Fairview sand is a machine washable fabric. It has a faux suede look and is easy to take care of. It is a bit darker than the Altima Sand color.

3  Liberty sand is a fabric with a rich texture and multicolored neutral threads. It is not machine washable, but can be spot cleaned, and is very durable. Because of the multiple shades in this fabric, it does not show dirt.

You can accent with some attention-getting patterns that include a shade of burgundy to compliment your wall color. Try 1 daffodil spice, or 2 Cricket berry.

I hope this helps, have fun decorating!

Casey
